Introduction: Response to Brief
The concept: The documentary is to educate young people and give them an understanding of how to practice safe sex as well as where they can go in case of any sexually related inquiries. Recently according to the Guardian 'Young people are increasingly likely to end up with sexually transmitted infections, experts say today as official figures are released showing record levels of STIs.Those aged under 25 are most at risk because they are often vulnerable and lacking the confidence to negotiate relationships.Data from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) indicates a worrying increase in sexually transmitted infections with sexual health clinics reporting 482,700 new cases in 2009, which is an increase of around 12,000 on the previous year.' This is why we want to raise awareness and hopefully get some teenagers thinking about ways to protect themselves.
As well as that we want to tell a side story. We would like to film a teenage mother talking about her experience as a young mother 'A Day As A Teen Mum'. Another side story could follow a teenager going for a check up at a Sexual Health clinic and what is on their mind.
Target audience: Due to the sensitivity of the issues raised, we will target teenagers over the age of 14-19.
Channel: 4,E4 BB3. This is because young people of our target audience are more likely to watch these channels when they do watch T.V. We would promote the documentary on popular social sites that young people use such as Facebook and Youtube.
