Preliminary Task: BBC3 Advert research

I chose this BBC3 advert because it is simple and to the point, telling us what is being advertised. We want our documentary to be the same, as our target audience doesn't always listen to the radio and we want to keep it short and to the point so that in case they catch it, it will grab their attention and they be informed about the time, channel and date it will be broadcasted. The radio station that we wanted our advert to be aired on was BBC 1Xtra as it for a younger audience in comparison to the other BBC stations.

This advert would also work well as a radio advert, because it follows the codes and conventions of a radio advert:

- Music is present and a composition of sounds merged from the tv series to create the atmosphere:
- Sounds bites of the character speaking
-Voice over of a presenter introducing it and briefing the audience on the channel that it will be aired.

We intend on using these same codes and conventions in our radio adver.

Consent Letter

For the street vox pops, we will need the consent from everyone we interview which is why we made this quick, easy, simple signing sheet.
View more documents from Diana.

Sex Quiz

We chose these set of 10 questions because we understand that there many sex myths out there and not all teenagers are able to set some apart from the truth. This is why decided to ask questions that challenged those myths as well as ones that are important and teenager may not necessarily know.

Target Audience

Previously our target audience was 16-19. We have decided to change this 14-19 although in our production we cannot film anyone under the age of 16 as we will need their parents consent. This is because we are aware that younger teenagers deal with the same situations that we will be dealing with in this episode. We know that if they understood how to cope with them from a younger age, it can will help them overcome some of the situations in the future.

Our documentary will be show on BBC3 the watershed at 9pm and the advert will be featured on the Metro. We chose the Metro because when I asked young people what newspaper they mostly read, this was the most popular and also it is free.

Audience feedback:
Aziza aged 16, mentions that in this society many young people do everything now sexually at an even younger age. This is why we see the importance of reaching a younger audience.

Audience Profile

Name: James
Age: 18
Occupation: Student
Hobbies and Interests: Plays football, clubbing and spending time with his girlfriend.
Social networking sites: He constantly updates his Facebook wall with photos of his days out. He also keeps in touch with friends and browses through videos and friend's pages.

We specifically chose James because he is a young male in our target age range. He is very outgoing and is currently in a relationship. This show is there to educate audience like James how to keep a healthy sexual relationship, if they are active.

Preliminary Task: Newspaper Advert

In our newspaper advert we would like to have silhouettes of other teenage couples in a dark background. In the foreground on the left hand side we want a mid shot of our presenter well lit and looking confident.Since our documentary is called 'Out Of The Dark' we want that our presenter is more knowledgeable about sex and relationships in contrast to the teenager in the dark background. This should connote that if teenagers watch this episode addressing sex and moods teenager's go through will help to bring them 'out of the dark' about issues to do with sex and relationships.

Advert Concept

Roughly sketched, this is how we would like our poster to look like, although we may change our the entire layout.

Update...

We decided that we want the name of our documentary series to be called 'Out of the dark' this will focus on different issues that young people go through. In this episode we be addressing 'Sex, Moods and Teenagers'. The title allows us to expand more on other things about sex to do with teenagers, as we want to make the documentary relate to them rather than it be something like a 'PSHE' lesson. This was it will be more appealing to our target audiences.

Postmodernism [production meeting]

Post-modernism is based on style over substance. Popular culture and media images dominate reality. Postmodernism is sceptical and questions secure theories such as religion and all claimed truth.

Below is a short post-modernism art film. The narrator describes creative ideas of which are not coincidental as an "Expression of emotions... These expressions are just a respond for our quest for meanings"

The media promotes a carefree, sexually immoral, live for the moment attitude. In our documentary we want to make teenagers more aware in order for them to make more responsibility over their sex life. We want to show the artistic elements of post-modernism films for example using more creative ways to present our production, such as using interesting transitions from one scene to the another, we cud use pictures to create to create clips.

Although for our documentary it is difficult to entirely present it in a post-modern way, unless we address a meaningful question that we will not ever be able to truly answer.
